Austrian Freedom party and Pro Cologne oppose Turkish mega mosque

The Germans and Austrians may prove somewhat harder 'nuts to crack' than the Muslims had previously presumed.

Although Muslim conquerors have taken Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, and Spain during different times in histoy, Austria has never fallen to the Islamists.

The Guardian reports - The buzz of drills and whine of cranes fill the air as scores of workers in yellow hard hats scuttle around the concrete shell of a building which, even in its unfinished state, dominates the working-class Cologne district of Ehrenfeld. For the thriving local Turkish community, the sprawling complex represents the chance for an entire infrastructure under one roof – from a mosque to a hairdresser's to a travel agency.

But for others in the city the new mosque and cultural centre has provoked fears that the multimillion-euro project will do little to encourage integration and give the Turks free rein to live in their own autonomous world. The right-wing populist Pro Cologne movement has campaigned against the mosque and moved a step closer to its goal last week after joining forces with Austria's far-right Freedom party (FPO).

"Every new movement needs a unique selling point," said Bernd Schöppe, of Pro Cologne. "Ours is the mosque. If ever you needed a sign of the real threat of Islamisation in Germany, it's that mosque, with its huge dome and 55m-high minarets." Pro Cologne, a small but growing movement which recently won seats on the city council, hopes to boost its profile by associating itself with the FPO, which made its name a decade ago after sweeping to power under the leadership of the late extreme-right firebrand Jörg Haider.

This month the FPO was celebrating another feat, after securing 26% of the vote in the Vienna elections. One of its slogans urged Muslims to "go home", and among the election paraphernalia it dished out was a computer game where players score points for shooting at mosques and minarets.

"We share similar views," said Judith Wolter, Pro Cologne's deputy leader. "It's a good partnership. They need us to build a rightwing faction on the European stage ahead of the 2014 EU parliamentary elections, we need them to help us win more voters. We'd be happy to adopt their name." Read more

The press news reports - A TEENAGE boy was knocked unconscious with a house brick, stabbed with a screwdriver and “left for dead” in a vicious race attack.

Joseph Haigh, 14, was savagely beaten by the gang of up to 15 Asian youths in Thornhill on Friday night.

The gang hurled racist abuse at him, constantly referring to the colour of his skin, yet police refused to classify the attack as racially-motivated.

Joseph’s dad Jonathan, 42, of Thornhill, said: “It was a racist attack.

“They were calling him ‘white trash’ and white this, that and the other.

“This is why people are angry about what is happening in this country.

“If it had been an attack by whites on an Asian lad it would have been a definite race attack. When it’s the other way round they don’t want to know.”

Joseph was out with his friends at around 9pm on Friday near Thornhill’s Rectory Park when the gang of Asians, said to be aged 18-20, came at them.

Joseph’s friends scattered and Joseph tried to make off on his bike, only to be confronted by one of the thugs who smashed him in the head with half a brick. Read more

Historical context - Turkish genocide over Bulgarians /Batak- 30 April;1876

In 1393, the Ottomans captured Tarnovo, the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire, after a three-month siege. In 1396, the Vidin Tsardom fell after the defeat of a Christian crusade at the Battle of Nicopolis.

With this, the Ottomans finally subjugated and occupied Bulgaria.Bulgarians in the Ottoman empire had to endure an inhumane discrimination; they paid extemely high taxes, incomparable with the taxes collected from Muslims.

They also had no legal rights whatsoever.

The turkish discrimination was out of proportion as bulgarians were forbidden to bear arms, were not allowed to wear clothes with bright colours or were required to not build any houses or churches that stood higher than those of muslim turks.

There were innumerable massacres throughout the Ottoman rule.

Bulgarians in the Ottoman empire were called by the racial slur Giaour, being frequently compared to the word Nigger.

By far the worst part of this racial and religious discrimination was the or the 'blood tax'.It was the act of kidnapping and detaining bulgarian male children.

After being kidnapped, the children were sent to turkish host families, where they were made fanatic muslims and members of the Janissary corps.

Afterwards the young Janissaries were sent to murder bulgarians, and in this way many of them were made to kill their relatives.

During the last two decades of the 18th and first decades of the 19th centuries the Balkan Peninsula dissolved into virtual anarchy, a period known in Bulgarian as the kurdjaliistvo.

Armed bands of Turks, called kurdjalii, plagued the area engaging in a murdering spree of the bulgarian peasants.Thousands were forced to flee to other cities, forests and mountains, and even foreign countries in order to avoid being killed and their offspring being raped.

the teenage victim of a horrific rape at the hands of bogus taxi driver Muhsen Nasser has opened up to The Star - to ensure other girls never have to experience the same horrors as she did.

The courageous 18-year-old was raped after a night out, when boxer Nasser posed as a cabbie.

Fed up of waiting for her squabbling pals, the girl jumped into what she thought was a taxi on West Street, but which in fact was Nasser's car.

What happened next she couldn't have foreseen in her worst nightmares.

But the brave teenager now wants to make sure something good comes out of her horrific ordeal.

"If one person reads this and decides to be more careful about getting a properly-authorised taxi late at night, then I've done a lot," she said.

"I want to get this message out to girls.

"Don't get into what you think is a taxi just because someone says they're a taxi driver - especially when you have had a lot to drink.

"It just takes one mistake and you could be in a car with someone who could hurt you.

"I'd also like to think I can give girls the courage to come forward if this has happened to them."

The girl, whose identity is protected by law, said she will never be the same person again as a result of her attack.

But, in an incredible show of compassion, she said she feels sorry for Nasser's family, adding: "You could tell they believed everything he told them, and the shame they must feel now."

Following the assault Nasser let the traumatised girl out of his car near to her house.

"He dropped me off and I ran as fast as I could into my house," she told The Star. "My dad was standing there in the hall, and I just remember clinging to him while ripping my clothes off with my make-up streaming down my face.

"I've never felt emotion like that. I've never felt intensity like that. Just thinking about that now chokes me up more than what happened itself."

After the initial police interview and statements, there was a time lapse before court proceedings were due and the 18-year-old struggled to come to terms with what had happened.

"I would drink stupid amounts because if I did I would fall asleep and not have nightmares," she said.

"I had some really good counselling though, and the Youth Association South Yorkshire centre on Carver Street has been absolutely fantastic."

Support also came in a less conventional form when the brave teenager's parents bought her a new puppy, just weeks after the incident.

The dog now sleeps beside the 18-year-old and follows her wherever she goes. "When I cry she comes and licks my face and licks my tears away - I just don't know what I'd do without her," she said.

The teenager then had to turn her attention and focus to the trial at Sheffield Crown Court, where she would have to face her attacker.

"I put myself through hell to do that court case and the cross examination was just as bad as I thought it would be.

It was the hardest thing I've ever done. But if it stops him doing it again then it was worth it."

After a gruelling three-day trial Nasser was found guilty and given seven years in jail.

The girl said: "I just want to say I'm happy, and be a rational person.

"At the moment I'm scared of any cars and certain men - I don't want that.

"This has affected my whole life and I will never be the same again.

"All I want now is just to be happy and content." Article

The Birmingham Mail reports - According to reports, the squad will be one of a number across the country with handpicked marksmen ready to repel armed attacks.

They will be armed with deadly Heckler & Koch sub-machine guns that are capable of firing up to 750 rounds per minute.

POLICE armed response vehicles are patrolling 24 hours-a-day around Birmingham after intelligence chiefs warned of a Mumbai-style terror attack on the city.

The West Midlands force has DOUBLED the number of armed officers in the city, TREBLED the armed vehicles on patrol and deployed specialist marksmen trained to carry out “head shots” on terrorist gunmen.

The move comes after a Birmingham man was killed in the Al Qaeda heartland of North West Pakistan last month, leading to fears that he was at the centre of a terror cell intent on copying the Mumbai attacks by targeting hotels in European cities.

More than 170 people were shot dead in the 2008 Indian terror atrocity after heavily armed militants took over two five-star hotels.

Preparations by cops for a similar attack in Birmingham were revealed last night by a senior police source.

“Top-ranking members of the firearms team were called down to London two weeks ago for a COBRA meeting to discuss the threat of terrorists laying siege to a city as they did in Mumbai,” he said.

“The police have received information from Pakistan that a similar attack in this country would most likely happen in Birmingham, London, Leeds or Manchester. They fear an attack on a major hotel, just like in Mumbai, but it could happen anywhere in the city.

“The response has been to step things up in Birmingham.

‘‘Usually there is only one Armed Response Vehicle on patrol, but now there are three patrolling the city at all times – they’re on the move 24 hours-a-day.

“On top of that, there are two specially equipped Land Rovers staffed with armed officers, and at least one specialist trained to take head shots, just like an army sniper.

- Details of the Crime -

On May 1, 2005, James E. Cooke, Jr., 34, broke into the apartment of University of Delaware student, Lindsey Bonistall, 20; he proceeded to rape and strangle her to death, then he put her body in the bathtub. In an attempt to throw off the police detectives, Cooke scrawled white-supremacist graffiti on the walls of Lindsey's apartment before setting it on fire in an attempt to cover up the crime. Cooke used a blue magic-marker to write "KKK" in several places near the front door of Lindsey Bonistall's Towne Court apartment, Newark Police Detective Andrew Rubin said. Rubin, the lead detective in the case, testified Friday during a hearing in Superior Court.

Cooke was arrested June 7 and held on more than $50,000 bail in connection with the home invasion before being charged yesterday with first-degree counts of murder, rape, arson, burglary and reckless endangerment. Surveillance cameras recorded images of a man using an automated teller machine card belonging to the victim of the first home invasion.

James Edward Cooke, 34, an unemployed shoe store clerk, who lived a block away from Bonistall's off-campus apartment in Newark, Del., faces the death penalty if convicted of slaying the popular young woman, who was mourned by several hundred friends and relatives at her funeral May 7.

Cooke, who Nefosky said lived with his girlfriend and four children, has a criminal record in New Jersey that includes convictions for theft, resisting arrest, riding in a stolen vehicle, drug possession and distributing drugs on school property. Read more

To fuel the bombs, Pakistan has stockpiled fissile material consisting of weapons-grade uranium. The country's primary uranium enrichment plant is located at the Dr. A.Q. Khan Research Laboratories in Kahuta, while other experimental-scale enrichment facilities are located at Sihala and Golra Sharif. In total, Pakistan has a stockpile of approximately 460 to 785 kg of highly enriched uranium (HEU), enough for 23 to 29 nuclear weapons.

In addition to producing HEU, Pakistan is attempting to obtain weapons-grade plutonium by extracting it from spent reactor fuel. The Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH) in Rawalpindi houses Pakistan's experimental-scale reprocessing plant which can extract10-20 kg of plutonium per year. Islamabad is also completing a plutonium reprocessing plant near Chashma the project for which was recently restarted after being abandoned in the 1970s.

To feed its reprocessing plants, Pakistan has built, with clandestine Chinese assistance, a 40 MW heavy water reactor at Khushab. The reactor, which began operating earlier this year, is Islamabad's only source of plutonium-bearing spent fuel that is not under international safeguards. Nursing Times reports - The agency nurse that accidentally switched off a patient’s life support machine will not face criminal charges.

Violeta Aylward, 55, was caught on film turning off tetraplegic Jamie Merrett’s ventilator by mistake in January 2009. She is currently suspended, pending an investigation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

However, she will not face criminal charges of grievous bodily harm after the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to act on a police report.

A statement from Wiltshire Police said: “We had a report on it and our vulnerable adult unit investigated. We sent a file to the CPS for consideration, and they said they would take no further action.”

Yesterday, the Patients Association reacted angrily to the case, describing it as an “appalling lapse in care” and questioning why lessons from previous cases had not been learnt.

Patients Association chief executive Katherine Murphy said: “Though the individual circumstances might differ, the failings are the same. The NHS has been warned repeatedly about ensuring the staff it hires, agency or otherwise, are suitably trained to look after their patients.

“Who will be held to account for this? Or will managers walk away unscathed yet again, even though a life has been ruined?”

The Birmingham Mail reports - A BIRMINGHAM mental health nurse has received a two-year caution for failing to provide adequate care to a patient.

Lindelwa Mnyaka, a 36-year-old senior nurse, went before the Nursing and Midwifery Council(NMC) admitting she had made “mistakes”.

A NMC Panel heard Mnyaka failed to inform a specialist nurse that an elderly patient had a serious pressure sore, describing the problem as only “superficial”.

The nurse also failed to update the patient’s care plan to reflect a deteriorating condition and in a separate incident, didn’t use sterilised instruments when dealing with the sore while working at Collingwood Court Nursing Centre, in Clapham, London, in December 2005.

“Mnyaka conceded that her decision to offer her own assessment of the severity of the pressure sore in place of what her manager had said was a mistake,” said a NMC spokeswoman.

Mnyaka stated she was insufficiently trained for the role.

Since the incident, the nurse has been working in a smaller Birmingham care home under close supervision. The panel ruled not using sterile equipment exposed the patient to risk of harm.

In addition, Herenton's campaign manager Sidney Chism told the New York Times that the Memphis-area congressional seat Cohen holds "was set aside for people who look like me. It wasn't set aside for a Jew or a Christian. It was set aside so that blacks could have representation."

In his latter days in office, Herenton faced many criticisms from the citizens of Memphis for the following:

* Failing to ensure sound fiscal management of the City of Memphis

* Fraud allegations involving national money for the building of the FedEx Forum

* Failing to communicate effectively with the City Council [15]

* Failing to address multiple allegations of improprieties regarding Memphis Light Gas and Water

* Serving as the prime target and catalyst for the City Charter rewrite

* Angering citizens to the point of becoming a target of a (failed) citizen recall effort

* Calling for a halt to early voting due to alleged "irregularities". The Shelby County Election Commission stated that early voting would continue.

* Doing little in response to the significant rise in crime under his leadership; he stated that "No mayor in any American City can solve the crime problem."

* Appointing new leadership of the Memphis Public Library over the objections of the Tennessee Library Association.

He resigned from office on July 30, 2009.
