You think its the spices giving you a upset stomach the next day?

Unbelievably the owner of this infested dump will be free to run a food premises in just six months!

The Birmingham Mail reports A takeaway owner whose premises were so filthy that it became overrun by German cockroaches has been fined £4,500 after pleading guilty to 10 food hygiene offences at Birmingham Magistrates Court.

Javed Iqbal, 40, of Pool Farm Road, Balsall Heath, was charged with a total of 10 offences, five relating to the unclean condition of Griller Pizza and Fish Bar, Taunton Road, Birmingham on August 19, 2009, and five resulting from an inspection on December 2, 2009.

There was evidence of pest activity in the food preparation and food storage areas on both occasions.

Mr Iqbal was ordered to pay fines totalling £4,500 and prohibited from managing or operating a food business for six months.

During the two checks, environmental Health Officers from Birmingham City Council noticed mice droppings, and mice and German cockroaches scurrying freely through the premises.

On both visits, conditions were sufficiently bad that officers immediately closed the premises.

Food preparation areas were extremely dirty, and a box of fish was being defrosted by a water pipe that was laid on the floor amongst cockroaches and mouse droppings.

A charcoal grill had not been cleaned in a very long time, and grease and food debris had run down the grill, pooling on the floor, providing a perfect environment for pests to prosper.

Councillor Neil Eustace, Chair of the Public Protection Committee at Birmingham City Council, says: “German cockroaches are identifiable by their orange stripes, and like the Germany’s World Cup team, they are extremely quick and keen athletes.

“However, unlike the German team, on this occasion, they have been routed by the English and eliminated at an early stage.” Article

East Pizza, in Smallbrook Queensway, run by Sharar Abdolahi, was so dirty it was closed down three times, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

Environmental health officers from Birmingham City Council saw mice running in and out of the premises eating chips and running up and down the kebab rotisserie.

Barry Berlin, prosecuting, said that environmental health officers found both dead and live mice, as well as mouse droppings, next to cooking equipment, food and on pizza boxes when they visited on January 7, 2008.

Mr Berlin said there was also holes and gaps where mice could get in. Read more
