Another multicultural area of Birmingham, another woman stabbed

Left: Bordesley Green Birmingham.

The Birmingham Mail reports Detectives investigating the murder of a woman who was knifed to death at her home were quizzing a man believed to be her boyfriend.

The body of the woman – whose first name was given by neighbours as Julie – was discovered by police at the terraced property in Norton Crescent, Bordesley Green, on Saturday morning.

Neighbours said they heard the pair listening to loud music and rowing shortly before police arrived at about 6am.

A man aged 40 was later arrested nearby after calling officers to give himself up.

Police confirmed the couple were known to them.

Next-door neighbour Pauline Young, aged 37, said the dead woman had lived a chaotic life in recent months.

“There was a bit of a commotion at about 5am,” she said.

“One minute I heard her singing and then there was a lot of shouting and someone then left the house.

“The police turned up very soon afterwards.

“It’s really sad.

“I only knew her to say hello to and she was usually very nice.

“There was a fire at the house about a month ago and I’m surprised she was still living there because it was quite badly damaged and the downstairs windows were boarded up.”

Mrs Young said police carried out a fingertip search of gardens in the street and also looked in nearby drains.

Last night the house remained sealed off and two officers were standing guard.

A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out today. Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s very sad.

“She had her problems but she would always say hello and seemed quite pleasant.”

Insp Bernard McEldowney, of West Midlands Police, said: “We were aware of the couple because of previous incidents of domestic violence.

“That’s something we will be looking as part of the investigation.”
